01 · Purpose

When to use this system

The Garnet Night system is a secondary theme. The primary green system remains the default Royals & Rogues reference. Select the alternative when the Scene or mode is explicitly associated with night, candlelight, secrecy, covert activity, or Rogue-led play.

02 · Color

Candle-lit palette

Wine-dark grounds replace the royal greens. Garnet becomes primary action. Gold and parchment remain shared with the primary system; argent is added as a second metal.

03 · Light and atmosphere

Night, candlelight, and secrecy

The visual environment is a candle-lit game hall rather than a uniformly red interface. Dark surfaces carry most of the composition; warm light marks only the active object, decision, or disclosure.

Ground

Wine-dark hall

Use flat wine-dark ink or the hall radial. Keep edges and recesses red-black.

Light

One focal glow

Use one gold or garnet glow per composition. Emerald glow is permitted only at the poker table.

Secrecy

Controlled disclosure

Use recessed wells, occlusion, and staged information layers. Do not reduce legibility or hide required state.

Metal

Gold and argent

Gold registers objects and structure. Argent identifies steel, parry, and Counter contexts.

Allowed backgrounds

Flat wine-dark ink, the wine-and-garnet hall radial, or the heritage-green table-felt radial.

Not used

Pure white, decorative gradients, photography washes, multiple glows, glassmorphism, bright ambient animation, or green action controls.

04 · Typography

Base type and manuscript layer

The base typography is the same as the primary system. The alternative adds optional Renaissance features for chapter openings, long rules passages, ceremonies, and historical material.

InterfaceAvenir
Use Avenir for controls, labels, navigation, rules UI, metadata, and compact instructions.
CompatibilityGoudy Heavyface
Loaded for shared Kiduna compatibility and legacy use.
Drop cap

Illuminated opening

Use at most one per chapter or long rules composition. A gilded variant places the initial inside an oxblood well.

Small caps

Renaissance subheads

True small caps support chapter labels, running heads, and serif eyebrows.

Figures

Old-style numerals

Use old-style figures in prose. Stats, counts, and ordinals remain lining figures.

Ligatures

Ceremonial display

Discretionary ligatures are opt-in for display text and are not used in interface labels.

Divider

Gold fleuron

Use a single fleuron between gold hairlines for section boundaries in manuscript contexts.

Emphasis

One garnet phrase

Use one upright garnet display phrase per headline. Do not italicize it or add a second phrase.

05 · Materials and movement

Quiet-enamel behavior

The material system remains compatible with the primary theme. Its inputs change from green-black and emerald to wine-dark and garnet.

07 · Game semantics

Classes, deck identities, timing rules, table states, card dimensions, catalog structure, and editorial provenance rules remain the same as the primary Royals & Rogues system.

08 · Transitions

Moving between the two systems

A theme transition must preserve orientation and meaning. The interface should change environmental treatment without changing component placement, labels, state, or controls.

Trigger

Use an explicit context

Change themes because the Scene, location, time, secrecy state, or mode changes—not as arbitrary decoration.

Continuity

Keep structure fixed

Preserve navigation position, identity, hierarchy, component dimensions, labels, focus, and active state.

Change

Remap semantic tokens

Transition grounds, surfaces, action, glow, and metal treatment. Do not rebuild the interface.

Motion

Use a short settle

Crossfade environmental colors within the 420 ms settle duration. Respect reduced-motion settings.
